May 28, 2009 Ben Lerman is a big guy with a little ukulele. But does
size matter? Time Out Chicago wrote, Tiny instrument, big balls
Ben
Lerman is so damn funny. And the size of his American audience is swelling too
fast to hide it.
Ben has headlined two American solo comedy tours
and he made his American television debut on Here TV in April. He entertains listeners
regularly on Sirius Satellite Radio and has a growing international following thanks to
his regular appearances on two of the most downloaded podcasts in the world, Keith
and the Girl (www.KATG.com) and Feast of
Fun (www.feastoffun.com).
In Size Matters, a 50-minute
concert performance, Lerman sings funny, satirical songs about love, loss, pirates,
American Idols, chubby chasers, online dating, and more. For a song to be really
funny, it should be somewhat tragic, Ben says. Fortunately for my songwriting,
I have no shortage of personal failures to draw from. He explores some blue material
and taboo topics, but Ben still connects emotionally. Thats where the comedy
comes from, he says. If you take the emotion out of a dirty joke, you just
have a clever string of profanity. And dirty is not the same as funny
Usually.
Ben is gay, but not nearly as gay as the BBC TV show, Any Dream Will Do. His show
will not attractscreaming little girls, but intelligent, laughing grown-ups will enjoy
every song.
