'Coming of Age' is a collection of original songs on the theme of growing old, reflecting the fantasies and frustrations of an older woman. The songs are sung with the backing of a band called The Professors of Logic, comprising piano accordion, guitar, bass, saxophone and violin.
The songs are connected together by verse, giving a storyline which runs from childhood, through adulthood, parenthood, loss, discovery, fantasy and ultimately fulfilment.
The performers have diverse musical backgrounds and have played together in many different settings, including pub sessions and ceilidh bands. The songs are composed and sung by Anna Durkacz Ryan. They reflect a variety of styles and genres, including country, blues, trad and cajun. They have a tongue in cheek theme running throughout. The micro-niche might be called Post-Menopausal.
Anna's early musical influences are Hair (the musical), Fleetwood Mac, Andy Stewart and the White Heather Club and of course, William Mc Gonagle. She has been described as 'the Beryl Cook of songwriting' and 'the Weird Al Jankovic of the Old Mum Genre' (with a touch of Pam Ayres).
