About Old Deerfield Productions

Old Deerfield Productions is a non-profit theater company with the mission of creating, presenting, and producing high quality theater arts that engage, challenge, and entertain audiences. ODP has a ten-year history of commissioning new work that addresses social challenges and tells the stories of neglected women in history. Their success with The Captivation of Eunice Williams that premiered in 2004 and toured Europe and Canada and was performed in co-operation with Glimmerglass Opera and at the Smithsonian Institution was repeated with a Mass Humanities funded commission, TRUTH, an opera about the life of Sojourner Truth. Truth was seen by more than 2400 audience members, selections broadcast on WGBY, performed at the New York International Fringe Festival, and accompanying education programs were enjoyed by youth throughout Western Mass.

Lindel Hart (playwright, the Creature) has performed throughout the U.S. and Europe as a singer, a dancer and an actor in traditional plays, as well as in experimental performance collaborations. He has performed with acclaimed New York performance artists Penny Arcade (Bitch! Dyke! Faghag! Whore!) and Ping Chong (The Angels of Swedenborg) and collaborated with choreographer/dancer Mary Miller (Mary Miller Dance Company, Pittsburgh, PA) in developing original and adapted performance works. The Miller/Hart collaborations have received critical praise and include The Yellow Wallpaper, an adaptation of the novella by Charlotte Perkins Gilman; Sowelu: A Spiritual Odyssey; Twilight; Time Bomb; and Turtle Island, a work for children of all ages. On more traditional theatre, he has recently taken on leading roles in The Mystery of Edwin Drood, The Rocky Horror Show, Rope and Legally Blonde the Musical.

As a writer Lindel has contributed to numerous publications, including The New Art Examiner and In Pittsburgh, and formerly served as on-air film critic for WQED-FM’s Sunday Arts Magazine (Pittsburgh, PA). He has written plays, screenplays, shorts stories and poetry, and has edited and published a volume of poetry by the late Belva Godwin Phillips.

Lindel has also made a name for himself as a yoga teacher, leading retreats, workshops and classes throughout the northeast at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, the Martha’s Vineyard Yoga Festival, and the Nantucket Yoga Festival, as well as yoga studios throughout the region. He leads an annual yoga retreat on Monhegan Island, Maine, and is the owner and director of Hart Yoga in Shelburne Falls, MA. Lindel also serves as the yoga teacher at Deerfield Academy, a private boarding high school in Deerfield, MA.
