Church Night is a live variety show hosted in Washington, DC at Black Cat the second Friday of every month featuring stand-up comedy, burlesque, live music, and of course, very important spiritual teachings from the Church Night staff.

The show began its monthly residency at The Wonderland Ballroom in April 2013. Since then, Church Night has hosted countless sell-out shows, featured at The Bentzen Ball, toured through New York and Chicago, and hosted several non-Church Night events in DC. The audience has grown so much that Church Night moved locations in January 2015 to Black Cat Backstage in hopes of accommodating as many members of the community as possible.

The “congregation” takes an active participation in the “service” through the Blessings and Light high fives, sing-a-long hymns, the call and response Good News, and everyone’s favorite, Shots n’ Tots Communion. While the promise of a free shot of whiskey and a single tater tot may get people in the door, the church staff is what keeps them coming back.

The cat obsessed, Nicolas Cage worshiping pastor, Reverend Dr. Stevedore Maybelline Bidet Esq. delivers the word with a fervor so strong that one may think he is on a combination of *illicit ambien and trucker meth. Kathy Piechota, the sensual, Midwestern youth minister/ former prostitute keeps the kids from sending too many dick pics during the service while keeping the congregation up to date on important church news. Altered boy, Randy St. Oates Jr’s job is to light the candles, do whatever else Bidet and Kathy tell him to, and blow out the candles. Also, he doesn’t have a tongue. Lastly, Church Night would not be complete without organist, Beulah Hurley, whose raw musical genius was birthed after learning to play on her uncle’s organ in his basement in 1952.

Church Night is written and produced by Linsay DemingLandon Letzkus, and Jeremy Frank.

* Be assured that Rev Bidet is not on these “dangerous” drugs. He is a man of the cloth and the Lord doesn’t allow him to do that… well, at least not while he is at work.
