Cathie Travers and Annette Tesoriero are Olive and Concetta: a masterful but whacky musical duo who journey to the inside of a piano accordion and live to tell the story! They prefer their high art on toast and juggle Rossini with crostini and red wine. It's a lot of fun, glorious singing, amazing accordion playing and tons of silly business. These are two seriously talented and experienced musicians who will have you laughing one moment and crying the next. In a word, Olive and Concetta are awesome!
Travers’ work has been featured in major arts and music festivals across Australia - Sydney (Festival and Mardi Gras), Perth, Melbourne, Hobart, Canberra, Adelaide and Fairbridge - and in concerts around the world: Canada, USA, Malaysia, Thailand and Japan. Her compositions have been included in many Australian and international TV and radio broadcasts, while choreographers and film-makers have often incorporated her concert pieces into their dance works and films, as well as commissioning specific new work.
She has performed with and composed for many Australian orchestras and concert artists, appeared as a session player on albums ranging from the avant-garde classical scene, through Latin-jazz to Celtic-influenced folk, composed for and performed live with dance-theatre companies, been Musical Director for many music-theatre productions, and now leads the Gypsy-tango quartet, Saggezza. Her own project work is always counterbalanced and stimulated by a commitment to assist in the development of skills and creativity within various sectors of the community – presenting workshops and performances with the Awesome Children’s Festival and the Musica Viva in Schools program; she has lectured to music and dance students at both UWA and WAAPA, and continues to maintain a private teaching studio for music instrumentalists and young composers.
Annette Tesoriero (mezzo-soprano) is an integral part of Sydney’s contemporary performance community. Her artistic passions lead her to create and perform in a wide range of musical and theatrical contexts. She is well known for her innovative work in new form music theatre and contemporary opera. In this capacity she has enjoyed collaboration with some of the world’s most exciting musicians, composers, theatre practitioners, visual artists and companies including Chamber Made Opera, Calculated Risks Opera, The Sydney Front, Theatre Kantanka, Pacitti Company, and Societas Raffaello Sanzio. She co founded The opera Project with performer/director Nigel Kellaway and with him, created and performed in several post operatic performance works including The Berlioz: Our Vampires Ourselves, The Terror of Tosca and Tristan. She is also well known as a leader for voice and performance workshops for performers and the wider community.
