~~Made Of Steel Theatre Company presents ‘The Straight Man,’ performed by a group of four young, enthusiastic and talented student actors from Sheffield Hallam University, who have experience  within a variety of TV, Stand Up, Film and Radio as well as their appearances in theatre performances such as ‘Peter Pan’ at the Mansfield Palace Theatre, ‘The Government Inspector’ at the Sheffield University Drama Studio, ‘Hairspray’ at Community Arts Academy in Bradford, ‘Oliver’ at the LCS Theatre in Derby and ‘Festen’ at the Jellicoe Theatre in Bournemouth.

'The Straight Man' was finally chosen from a group of seven entries within a highly competitive selection process; including submissions from the creative writing students at the University as well as scripts from established writers within the local area. John Hunter is an established writer and script editor from Sheffield who has created script and plays for theatre companies such as Slung Low Theatre Company, Lord Whitney, Team Cooper and Red Star 3D.

As well as a strong central company, this project is also fully supported by numerous senior performance staff at the University; including Ashley Barnes a former director of ‘Dead Earnest’ Theatre Company who has taken numerous shows to the Edinburgh Fringe in the period 1989 to 2000.  Also involved is Neil Sissons, a former Director of ‘Compass Theatre Company’ who again has taken successful shows to the Edinburgh Fringe over a number of years. To develop the script alongside John Hunter is Dr. Sophie Bush who is an experienced writer and director, as well as Chris Bush, who is best known for his 2007 work 'TONY! The Blair Musical', which enjoyed sell-out runs at the York Theatre Royal and Edinburgh Fringe before transferring to the Pleasance Islington as winner of the inaugural Sunday Times NSDF Award for a successful off West-End run. Its sequel, Tony of Arabia, debuted at the Pleasance Dome, Edinburgh in 2008, running in rep with the original show.
