Wai Company, an aerial and contemporary dance group, formed in Puna, Hawai'i in 2010 and moved to the city of Honolulu in 2012. Wai Co explores themes of cultural identity, indigenous perspectives, postcolonialism, beauty, and power to create original and provocative performances reflecting the peoples of Hawai'i and the world, and encourage cultural understanding in the face of globalization and modernity.
Brian “Wailana” Alsola Simcock was born in the Philippines and raised in Hawaii since age 4. He penned a degree entitled “Culture and Performance in Contemporary Hawai'i” bridging Hawaiian studies and theater to create an innovative program. He has studied and performed contemporary dance and aerial for the past 20 years. He started Wai Company in 2010 and continues to teach and choreograph aerial and contemporary dance in his local and global communities.
