The Sons of Pitches are an Acappella group based in Birmingham, UK. We have been gigging regularly across the UK since our inception in 2010. In both 2012 and 2013 we won our regional round of the Voice Festival UK and went on to compete in the National Finals in London. While we narrowly missed out on taking the title last year, the group received more awards than any other in the competition, being recognised for ‘Outstanding arrangement’, ’Outstanding Choreography/Stagecraft’, ‘Outstanding Performance’, and ‘Outstanding Vocal Percussion’ on two occasions. In 2012 represented the 'Rest of the World' category in the International Championship of Collegiate Acapella (ICCA) final held in the town hall of New York city. Furthermore, in April of 2014 we were chosen to represent the UK at the Hong Kong international acappella festival in performing at the festival and providing workshops for a Hong Kong-based youth movement where we performed to crowds of over 2000 people.
Stylistically we consider our sound a type of ‘new acappella’. We minimise the use of traditional ‘ahs’ and ‘oohs’, instead favouring a less obviously vocal approach to singing. Using carefully considered vowel sounds and mouth shapes to control the audible harmonics of a note, we can produce much more ‘electronic’ sounding music. This proves particularly useful for the chart-toppers and club hits that we love to arrange. Unlike many groups, we perform on microphone to enhance the bass and beats, creating a fuller sound for bigger crowds and venues. We intertwine our smooth arrangements with comical sketches and showmanship, guaranteeing an enjoyable evening's entertainment for all.
