FINALIST ‘DAVE’ LEICESTER COMEDY FESTIVAL SILVER COMEDIAN 2012
“A highly talented and very twisted sort of comedy writing and performance” (BBC 2 Radio newsreader Fenella Fudge)
‘Very funny...a cracking act” (Logan Murray)
“Imagine Last of the Summer Wine written by Peter Cook. Imagine no more.” (Terry Staunton, Sunday Express)
“Fred is a shambling, nervous, dodgy, shifty, but quite brilliantly funny persona of a deep dark hue” (Jonny Emmett stand up, actor and anarchist)
Fred emerged from the “Get Stuffed’ Tringe Comedy Festival” stable of new stand-ups (“Rovers”) in summer of 2011. He has gigged at, amongst many others, Comedy Cafe, Up the Creek, Secondo, Kings Head Downstairs Cabaret of Pottiness, Angel Comedy ‘Free and Funny’, Comedy on the Common, Funny Roundabout, ‘Laughing with Intent’, The Pipeline and Freedom of the Fridge.
He performed with great acclaim in Barry Fern’s 2012 (1 – 4 star) Edinburgh Free Fringe show ‘This Barry Ferns Belongs to Lionel Ritchie’, being on stage for most of the show (whether he was meant to be or not). Fred also opened for the Humour League’s short (3*) run at the free fringe, for which he also wrote sketches.
“Not so much deadpan as dead-behind- the-eyes; hilariously disturbing flights of imagination inspired by psychosis, pointlessness, failure, and mental breakdown and the other unpleasantness that constitutes Fred’s ‘life’” (Bob Gillies (‘comedy slut Bob’))
Available for hire or for free. He’d be great at a funeral. He has 5, 10, 15 and 20 minute sets.
He claims (and even he is not sure if he is joking) to be the UK’s first openly schizophrenic stand-up, which is a brave but probably foolhardy bit of promotion.
Fred’s alter ego Peter Purvis has written comedy film scripts, novels and a radio situation comedy. Peter works part-time as a policy analyst for QC appointments and is a qualified psychotherapist. Peter set up his own comedy night in Aylesbury, the AristoComClub with Ronnie Rigsby as resident compere and headline professional acts. Peter/Fred’s Biography is coming out next year entitled “This Will Cheer You Up.” Fred will be doing a one/two-man show at next year’s Edinburgh free fringe, with the same title.
