Ian Hawkins wrote other comics" jokes for ten years before taking to the stage and doing "the easy bit" himself. On stage, Ian explores a hostile world with cheerful but possibly misplaced optimism, engages in playful banter with audiences and employs some ridiculously long words.
As a script writer, Ian has worked on BBC1"s Politics Show, R4"s Loose Ends and The Treatment, a little-known programme on 5 Live that was described by Heat as "***** Quite simply week in, week out, the best show on the radio." The Treatment was subsequently cancelled, and Heat went catastrophically down market. For television, Ian"s first job was on the 11 O"Clock Show, and his last was on the Stephen K Amos Show. He still contributes to The Now Show and The News Quiz, and his proudest achievement is that one of his waspiest gags made headlines in the LA Times.
An occasional presence on BBC London and 3 Counties Radio, Ian Hawkins has a clean, family- and broadcast-friendly style that"s refreshing, fun and strangely subversive.
With or without guitar/backing tracks, Ian is available for 7-15 min slots, MCing and general presenting.
