Winner of 'The Moth' StorySLAM, David has written & performed F*CK TINDER: a love story over 80 times, selling out 90% of every show from Vancouver to New York City. He's also done 8 other one-man shows: VIRTUAL MOTION: A One-Man Hyper-Opera (Sacred Fools & 20-city tour), MONKS AND SLUTS AND STATESMEN (OH, MY!) (Edinburgh), RAGING LOVE (Atlantic Center), TRIPPIN’ (LaMaMa), ALL YOGIS BE CRAZY (Sedona Yoga Festival) and TOTAL NOVICE (HFF’14). His newest shows are "Ghosts of Mississippi" about the unlikely year he spent in The Birthplace of The Blues and "Eat Your Neighbor," inspired by a trip to Papau New Guinea where he hung out with missionaries, was chased by a naked man with a spear, and discovered a community where most people have more than two daddies.
He’s directing the pilot of F*ck Tinder and is finishing a book about living and working with his mentor Spalding Gray at an arts colony shortly before his suicide called NEVER MEET YOUR IDOLS.
David is a trained opera singer and Jonathan Larson Award-winning producer as well as a writer/composer of 7 evening-length operas/musicals, including: TRIPPIN’ (LaMaMa ETC), NO GOD BUT YEARNING: A Prayer Cycle (Mabou Mines and The Public Theatre's: New Works Now!), MONKS AND SLUTS AND STATESMEN, OH, MY! David has worked in the writers’ rooms of the TV shows: HawthoRNe (TNT), Swingtown (CBS), and Jonas (Disney) as in The Jonas Brothers. Yup. I hung with Kevin, Joe and Nick. They don't wear underpants. I wish they did.
And as co-founder of the non-profit juggernaut Raw Impressions, INC. and RIPFest he produced the world premieres of 170 of ten-minute musicals and 60 short films from 2001-2006 with over 2000 amazing artists in New York & LA including Oscar, Emmy and Tony-winning talent like Tonya Pinkins and Rachel Sheinkin.
David studied politics at Princeton with a focus on the development of the nascent state of Namibia. He also got a Masters in Music composition at Northwestern after a brief stint at Juilliard - like all good comedians.
