Carole Shaw comes from a London family of serial joke-tellers. She started performing aged 6 while putting on shows for local children. Her sister would do the choreography and she would tell funny stories and sing the songs. She has been appearing in group and solo shows (song, dance, theatre, comedy) for 40 years, performing her own one-woman cabaret-style events for the last 27. She took her first show to Edinburgh Fringe 2006 and returned to Brighton & Edinburgh Fringes in 2019. She is appearing at Fringe World Perth & Adelaide Fringe in Feb-March 2020.
She likes to parody powerful, (in)famous UK female characters, such as the late Margaret Thatcher and the Queen, with an underlying philosophical/moral statement, presented in a gentle, non-obscene but thought-provoking musical comedy form, involving audience participation, singalongs and quizzes.
Carole has had a variety of careers but was primarily a teacher, translator/interpreter, specialising in Gibberish & Double Dutch. Being made redundant at 50 and, despite an armful of qualifications and a lifetime of experience, she was unable to repair her tattered career or save for her elusive pension. 17 years on she is telling jokes and singing for her supper!
