Cellmates improv is a duo of veteran Boston-based improvisers: Michael Kelly and Nathan Feldman. While Cellmates as a group is still relatively young, Mike and Nathan consistently perform on ImprovBoston’s premier indie team show (Studio 40) and have performed at UCB’s New York theater, and soon at the Ocean State Improv Festival. As Cellmates, the group has performed at nearly every significant comedy theater in the Greater Boston area, including ImprovBoston, the Riot Theater, The Green Room and The Center For Arts at The Armory. With most of Boston covered, Cellmates is starting to take their show on the road and apply to festivals around New England (and the world!).
Cellmates’ show is about freedom. Through the lens of improv, theater and art in general, our show illustrates that the mind is what truly enables freedom, no matter your physical circumstance. At the top of the show, the audience sees the improvisers within the confines of their shared prison cell. Then the improvisors and audience are transported out, together, into a show where anything is possible, weaving two storylines in and out that eventually collide in a great crescendo. Our show is appropriate for all ages and spans generations, just like the improvisers; Mike is happily married with two sons in university, while Nathan is barely out of university (let alone diapers).
We believe that improv comedy has the capability not only for laughs, but also for introspection. Both, hand in hand, are the goals of our show.
