   2009 was the first year for
shows at the Newsroom, and the venue became a very popular venue from the early morning
children's shows to the very late night Cabaret. The bar is open from 9am until 5am, so
it's very rarely closed!. The venue is located in a prime position right at the juction at
the top of Leith Street, just off of Princes Street near North Bridge, and seconds away
from the Half-price Ticket hut, Princes Street Gardens and the Mound Performance Area,
5 minutes walk from the Royal Mile.  As well
as being in a very busy area right in the centre of town, it is also just up the Road from
group of venues surrounding the Omni Centre: Highlight, Playhouse Theatre, Edinburgh
city Football Club and The Black Dutch Cafe Bar, and also very near to The
Stand, The Assembly Rooms and Jekyll & Hyde.
The venue has an attractive and spacious main bar,which was
refurbished in early 2010 open all day from 8am, and serving breakfasts, lunches and
dinners as well as a full selections of beers, wines, spirits, cocktails, teas and
coffees. This is our only venue that can offer a space for shows from 8am in the morning -
and is ideally suited to all genres of show, but especially children's shows before
midday.
 The performance space is in the basement of the
venue, and was refurbished in 2011, giving a much imrpoved area with better sound and
light facilities installed for is. The Space is accessible from the main bar and also with
it's own separate entrance off of the street. It is low ceilinged and atmospheric,
and an ideal space for performance.
Performance Space: The
Basement
Stage - 5m (wide) by 4m (deep) corner stage,
semi circular. raised to 6 inches. No wingspace or backstage.
Seating - Capacity is 60 seated, plus
standing room for 20.
Lighting - 1xFixed par Can to Flood light
the stage. Additional Lighting can be supplied by companies and fixed as required.
Sound - The room is supplied with a 4
channel mixer (2xJack, 2xPhono Inputs). The room has 2xCD Players, 2xMicrophones and 2xMic
stands. Any additional sound equipment can be supplied by performing companies and stored
at the venue.
Audio Visual - There is no other AV
equipment, but this can be added by performers. Sight lines are difficult for
presentations in this room.
Storage - There is a small area for storage
at the venue for props and equipment, shared with other groups.
Bar - The bar in the room is closed during
performances.
