Last year Tony Cowards talked about his two passions
in life, football and comedy (which he combines by being an Ipswich Town supporter) in his
first ever hour long show, Festival of Football, a mixture of
semi-autobiographical stories and comedic observations from the world of football fandom
that was well received by reviewers and audiences alike.
"genuinely funny" The Stage review of
"Festival of Football", Edinburgh Festival 2007
This year Festival of Football 2 promises to be tighter
at the back, more competitive in the middle and sharper upfront as Tony gives 110% to
capitalise on last seasons success, featuring a mix of stand up, audience
interaction and football related silliness.
"My favourite joke of the Festival so far was told to me by a
Suffolk stand-up comedian and die-hard Ipswich fan Tony Cowards" Hardeep Singh
Kohli, The Scotsman on Sunday (and BBC1s "The ONE Show")
Covering such diverse footballing subjects as Englands woeful
attempt to qualify for Euro 2008, the infamous Premiership Game 39 debacle and
Ronaldos run in with a trio of transvestite prostitutes, FoF2 has all
the over hyped excitement of a Sky Sports Super Sunday, the passion of an Old Firm Derby
and the hilarity of a John Terry penalty.
"a great way to spend an hour" - Freshair.com review,
Edinburgh Festival 2007
Tony has been a regular on the UK comedy circuit for 5 years now and
regularly performs at comedy clubs all over the country as well as hosting his own nights
for various football teams (including Billericay Town FC) and the military! He also
successfully took the original Festival of Football to the Leicester Comedy
Festival and a special homecoming gig at the Offside Bar in London.
"Like a stand up comedy version of Soccer AM and
Fantasy Football!" - Leicester Evening Mercury, February 2008
