comics with contributions from across the cultural canal.
From Pupoo’s ganja smoking gran to Dharmander’s formidable ‘unties’
- It ain't all about curries and arranged marriages but it ain’t half hot!
This crew of around half a dozen stand up comics
have come together for their 2nd year as part of Edinburgh’s Free
Festival. In 2006 each stand-up performed a
5-10 minute set received warmly by Asians and non-Asians alike. Now being described as the Asian Def Jam, this
Invasion is hotting up clubs and festivals alike.
Last year also saw the launch of ‘The A to Z
of all things Asian’ – a comical look at British Asian experiences, (now
available at here). The author Mahtab
Khan promises to bring ‘The A to Z of all things Caribbean’ to this year’s
festival.
The line-up so far includes:
Mahtab Khan aka Pupoo the blind taxi driver
Dharmander Singh – actor & stand up Comic
Mandy Poonia – aka Pinky from Preston
Sajeela Kershi - wickedly naughty but terribly
nice Home Counties girl who strokes with the one hand and slaps with the other.....watch
