Andrew Frank: Cognitive Goof is an hour of stand up comedy exploring the hilarity and profundity of perception, belief, identity, time, and space. Paradoxes, cognitive dissonance, and the slapstick of abstractions abound in this show. Frank's material and particular comedic perspective was cultivated over a decade of relentless touring of America's most religious and patriotic enclaves. The Bible Belt served as a fertile environment for this young comedic mind and also was the necessary force to propel him into the nomadic life of the wandering performer. In 2018 Frank took his hour to 148 cities, 10 countries, and was selected to perform in 7 festivals. Now the young comedian will perform at potentially the densest concentration of unbridled creativity and laughter that has ever existed: the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

News and Reviews for this Show

August 16, 2019  One4Review
Mr Frank is a newcomer to the Fringe, but not to comedy, having performed in America for some time. His experience is evident in his confidence and easy facility with his material, and in his effusive, enthusiastic energy on stage. He bounds up, delivers a one sentence précis of the show, and bam, we were off – no time-wasting with welcomes or crowd work, just straight into cerebral, logical, well constructed stand up.

This show contains my favourite dick joke I’ve ever heard at the Fringe. It’s clever and it’s silly, and it examines the world from an unexpected perspective; statements which could describe the whole show. Mr Frank takes a pragmatic, logical, sensible look at a variety of topics – religion, gun ownership, aliens, politics, climate change – and examines the incongruities thus revealed. He’s very careful not to mock, simply to question. Nevertheless, for those looking to be offended, there is sufficient here to misconstrue.

A varied response from the audience I was with, but there was consistent and audible laughter throughout the show. The quality of his material and performance is consistent, and things move at a pace which suggests you’re expected to be relatively well-informed and have some smarts (no dumbing down here).

Lovely first Fringe, and hopefully not his last. Click Here

Fringe review: Andrew Frank: Macrocosm
He might have left his Christian upbringing far behind, but Andrew Frank isn’t quite done with it yet.
The Missouri-born stand up still farms his formative years in the Bible Belt for material, and if you’re easily offended by pointed, hilarious commentary on fundamentalist dogma then you might want to think twice about attending his Fringe show, Macrocosm.
If not, you’ll enjoy his riffing on plenty of religious topics, with lengthy side excursions into American politics, Anne Frank, climate change, science, and probably the smartest (and longest, no pun intended) dick joke you’ll ever hear.
Bring a calculator and brush up on your physics if you care to call him out on it. Frank is a witty man, trading obvious jabs for sly observations, cerebral quips, and machine gun spitted declarations on the morality of the western world, and he’s not above razzing the audience for missing or being slow on a punchline.
Stay sharp if you decide to interact with him, but definitely do not miss out. Click Here
